Careers Fair 2017

Message from The Knowledge Business:

Talking to pupils at Glenrothes High School Careers Fair:

We exhibited our modern apprenticeship programme last month at the Glenrothes High School Careers Fair.

The Knowledge Business was one of 37 local businesses and Universities at the Glenrothes High School Careers Fair last month, helping young people and their parents decide what’s next for them and how they can kick-start their careers.

Becky, our Skills Manager, and Sean, one of our current apprentices lead our exhibit in a packed-out hall.

Why IT?
Many of the pupils who attended were too young to be apprentices. This was a good time to tell them about how a week’s work experience would let them discover what a role in IT would be like. The event was a great opportunity to interact with parents – particularly about the financial benefits of an apprenticeship, and how it is a good alternative to university.

We also had a chance to talk to the teachers of Glenrothes High School, discussing how they should promote the subject to all pupils to try and tackle the gender and skills gap within the IT sector.

Young Apprentices
Exhibiting at this event gave us the chance to promote our Modern Apprenticeships Programme to the pupils and try to gain some interest for potential apprenticeships next year. After a very positive experience at this careers fair, The Knowledge Business will look to attend more at other high schools in the future. If you are a teacher interested in encouraging young people to think about IT as a potential career, get in touch with us to arrange a visit.
